Liberty Rewards Fourth-Year Coach with Fully Guaranteed Deal
$75 Million Contract Over Eight Seasons
Freeze Among Highest-Paid in Group of Five
Liberty University has rewarded its fourth-year football head coach, Hugh Freeze, with a fully guaranteed $75 million contract that will keep him at the helm of the Flames through the 2031 season.
The eight-year deal makes Freeze one of the highest-paid coaches in the Group of Five conferences, a level below the Power Five conferences that include the SEC, ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, and Pac-12.
Freeze led Liberty to a 10-1 record in 2022, securing their highest ranking in the Associated Press Top 25 poll. The Flames also won the Cure Bowl with a 58-27 victory over Coastal Carolina.
Liberty's decision to extend Freeze's contract comes amid rumors of interest from Power Five schools, including Auburn and South Carolina. Freeze has a history of success at the highest level, leading Ole Miss to a 19-13 record in two seasons as their head coach before being forced to resign in 2017 due to personal misconduct.
