California Prop 65 List

Proposition 65: List of Chemicals Updated

California's Law on Cancer and Reproductive Toxicity

Over 800 Chemicals Added to the List

The State of California has updated its list of chemicals known to cause cancer or reproductive toxicity under Proposition 65. The new list includes over 800 chemicals, an increase from the previous list of approximately 700 chemicals. Proposition 65 requires businesses to provide warnings to consumers about products that contain these chemicals.

The updated list includes several new chemicals, such as:

  • Glyphosate, a widely used herbicide
  • Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), a chemical used in the production of non-stick cookware and other products
  • Acetaldehyde, a chemical found in tobacco smoke and alcoholic beverages

Businesses that sell products containing these chemicals must now provide warnings to consumers. The warnings can be in the form of a label on the product, a sign at the point of sale, or a website notification.

The updated list of chemicals is available on the California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) website. Businesses can also find more information about Proposition 65 on the OEHHA website.
