Moscow and Kyiv Conduct Largest Prisoner Swap Since Invasion
In a significant development, Ukraine and Russia have announced a major prisoner exchange, the largest since the start of the Russian invasion nearly seven months ago. The swap is seen as a potential sign of progress towards peace talks between the two countries.
According to Ukrainian officials, the exchange involved the release of 215 Ukrainian prisoners, including 108 women, in exchange for 56 Russian soldiers and 19 pro-Kremlin Ukrainian citizens. Among those released from Russian custody was a Ukrainian naval commander.
The prisoner swap was facilitated by mediation from Saudi Arabia and Turkey, and is viewed as a positive step towards de-escalating the conflict. Some experts believe it could pave the way for further negotiations and potentially peace talks between Ukraine and Russia.
